We are extremely proud to have three CANS certified Nurse Practitioners!

There are approximately 529 Certified Aesthetics Nurse Specialists (CANS) in the United States. This certification is granted by The Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB) and is specifically for nurses who practice in the field of aesthetic and plastic surgery.

This certification validates a registered nurse's expertise in aesthetic procedures like injectables, laser treatments, and clinical skincare. It signifies the nurse's dedication to excellence in aesthetic medicine and provides assurance to patients about the nurse's knowledge and ability to deliver safe and effective treatments.

CANS stands for Certified Aesthetic Nurse Specialist, a certification administered by the Plastic Surgical Nursing Certification Board (PSNCB).

  • The CANS certification is a specialty credential for nurses who specialize in aesthetic and cosmetic procedures.

  • Registered nurses (RNs) who work in aesthetic settings, including cosmetic surgeries, dermatology, or facial plastic surgery.

    1. Enhanced patient safety: CANS certification demonstrates a nurse's commitment to providing high-quality, safe care in aesthetic procedures.

    2. Professional recognition: It showcases a nurse's expertise and commitment to continuing education and professional growth.

    3. Career advancement: CANS certification can open doors to more advanced roles and opportunities in the field of aesthetic medicine.

    1. Become an RN: A current, active RN license is a prerequisite.

    2. Gain experience: Accumulate at least 1,000 practice hours within the core specialties in the last two years.

    3. Work with a qualified physician: Collaborate with a board-certified physician in a core specialty or a CANS-certified Nurse Practitioner.

    4. Obtain a letter of recommendation: Get a letter of recommendation from the collaborating physician or NP.

    5. Pass the CANS exam: The exam is administered by the PSNCB and assesses knowledge and skills in aesthetic procedures.

    6. Recertify: CANS certification is valid for three years and requires recertification through continuing education or by retaking the exam.
