Glass Skin for Summer: The Healthy Glow Everyone Wants
Every summer, patients ask me the same question: "How do I get healthy, glowing skin without
looking greasy or overdone?" Or “I have oily skin, how can I make it look glowy without adding
more oil?”
The answer doesn’t have to do with changing up your makeup or adding volumizing agents—it's
focusing on healthy skin. The "glass skin" trend is less about filters and more about creating skin
that is hydrated, smooth, radiant, and reflects light in a “glow from within” way.
This summer, I encourage my patients to focus on five simple goals:
1. Even Your Skin Tone
Nothing creates a healthy glow quite like an even complexion. Sun exposure, inflammation, and
hormonal changes can all contribute to unwanted pigmentation. Summer is a great time to stay
consistent with SUNSCREEN and incorporate treatments or skincare that target discoloration.
My favorite in-office treatment for improving pigment while stimulating collagen is BBL, making it
one of the best investments for brighter, more even-looking skin. Chemical peels are also a
great way of maintaining glowy skin.
2. Smooth Your Skin's Texture
When skin feels smooth, it naturally reflects light better. Gentle exfoliation, collagen stimulation,
and a personalized skincare routine help refine texture without compromising the skin barrier.
Microneedling is a killer option to have done during the summer. We use Skinpen here, the
FIRST FDA-cleared and NUMBER ONE microneedling device on the market.
3. Prioritize Hydration
Hydrated skin is plump, healthy, and RESILIENT. True hydration comes from both within the
skin and by strengthening the skin barrier so it can retain moisture. This creates that dewy, fresh
appearance that defines the glass skin aesthetic. Oral hydration with water and electrolytes
should be top priority in the summer, as well as appropriate topicals. Daily power defense by ZO
and AMPRA by Skin Better Science are my favorite products for hydration. AmpraTM by
Skinbetter Science, was chosen as my featured product of the month because it supports
nearly every goal of achieving healthy summer glass skin.
Ampra is designed to enhance overall skin radiance while helping improve hydration and
support a stronger skin barrier. It promotes a smoother-looking complexion, allowing skin to
reflect light more evenly and achieve that healthy, lit-from-within glow. Rather than masking the
skin, it works to improve its overall appearance, making it an excellent addition to both your
morning routine and any in-office treatment plan.
4. Minimize the Appearance of Pores
While we can't actually shrink pores, we can minimize how noticeable they appear by keeping
them clear, supporting collagen production, and maintaining balanced hydration. Smoother skin
means pores become much less of the focus. Any of the above treatments contribute to
minimizing the pores appearance.
5. Create a Natural Light Reflection
The final step is the glow itself. Healthy skin reflects light evenly, giving you that luminous
appearance that makeup simply can't replicate. When your skin is hydrated, smooth, and
even-toned, the glow happens naturally. We can also add to light reflection seen with volume
loss by supporting the tissue with volumizing agents such as fillers and biostimulators. This is
only ever used when needed, but in the right candidate can be the cherry on top of a perfect
treatment plan.
Beautiful skin isn't about looking flawless—it's about creating healthy, resilient skin that glows
from the inside out. This summer, focus on consistency, protect your skin from the sun, stay
hydrated, and choose products that support your skin's long-term health. As always, I am happy
to help!
